How Our Nobel Prize Discovery-Inspired Hydrating Molecule Works

Drink plenty of water and moisturize regularly—sounds simple, right? But not all skincare hydration is created equal. Despite how it may appear, dehydrated skin occurs from lack of water in the skin—not lack of oil. Dehydrated skin will produce more oil to counterbalance the lack of water, which is how dry skin can feel greasy at the same time. Water-based formulas contain humectants, such as glycerin or hyaluronic acid, which help slow down evaporation from the skin by drawing water to the skin surface and keeping it there. Our Golden Belly Serum is an oil-based formula, which means it’s waterless, and it contains 13 potent but safe botanical oils, extracts, and actives processed and selected specifically to provide six reparative skincare benefits to the growing belly skin during pregnancy, and to offer luxurious moments of self-care at these transformative moments in life.

So, can oil do all of the hydrating?

Oil cannot truly hydrate skin on its own. It can lubricate the skin. It can nourish the skin. It can, depending on the oil, form a protective layer on the skin to help keep water from evaporating. But only water can hydrate the skin, and we know that oil and water don’t mix.

So, how did we create an oil formula that hydrates with water—a feat that seems to defy the law of physics?

Our Golden Belly Serum is formulated with a Bio-Based Smart Hydrating Compound, which draws water to the skin’s surface, just as a humectant does. This proprietary compound, also called Isosorbide Dicaprylate, is a proprietary compound formed by naturally derived acids sourced from corn and coconut oils at maximum active level. This is a unique and innovative form of hydration that is only found in water-free formulas, and it is inspired by the 2003 Nobel Chemistry Prize-winning discovery of Aquaporins, or water channel proteins within cells, by Peter Agre. Aquaporins form pores in the membrane of cells, allowing water to travel between them, and enabling the efficient hydration of skin.

How does the Bio-Based Smart Hydrating Compound work in the Golden Belly Serum?

In our Golden Belly Serum, we have no fillers—every ingredient is chosen for potency and efficacy in treating stretch marks in a multi-correctional way, and our proprietary blend is formulated to work in synergy for maximum effects. We use a four percent concentration of the compound, while many other brands only use a two percent concentration. That’s because when your skin is properly hydrated from the inside out, your skin is also able to repair, rejuvenate, and strengthen itself, especially by absorbing the nutrients found in our Golden Belly Serum. We don’t just want you to feel luxurious when you apply Golden Belly Serum—we want you to glow from within.
