Skin Soothing Diaper Bag Essentials

In the mix of so many new baby joys, bringing home your newborn can lead you into a lot of unfamiliar territories—how to properly hook-in the car seat, mastering the perfect swaddle, keeping track of wet diapers, and so much more.

New moms, your diaper bag is about to be your new BFF (next to your new babe, of course). Trying to figure out what to pack and what to leave behind comes with getting to know your baby’s needs, but one diaper bag essential you’ll always want to have on hand is something that provides their skin with maximum comfort.

So, what should I make sure to always pack in my diaper bag?

Our Chief Scientific Officer, and Director of Pediatric Dermatology at Stanford Medical School, Dr. Joyce Teng stresses the importance of always caring for your baby’s skin. “Since babies’ and infants’ sweat glands are not fully developed and cannot wick sweat normally, it can easily lead to chafing due to excess moisture.” Not only is their skin health vital to their development, if their skin is uncomfortable, you’re going to have one unhappy baby. You’ll want to have something on hand that is sure to put a stop to any of that irritation.

The 411 on Baby Powder vs. Baby Lotion.

Baby powder, what used to be a staple in diaper bags, is frankly too laborious, messy, and often contains talc in the formula. Talc, formally Talcum Powder, has recently been shown to have many detrimental side effects. If inhaled, studies have shown that it can cause respiratory problems and lung disease, leading to long-term health problems like cancer.

Our Soothing Powder Lotion (within our Soothed Skin Duo), is a lightweight, talc-free lotion that takes away the need for a powder. Yep, powder-lotion is a thing. We harnessed the power of plant-based powders, like Arrowroot, which absorbs excess moisture while also softening skin, and worked that into an innovative cooling lotion that leaves a oh-so-smooth velvety finish, perfect for your diaper bag.

So, skip the powder, avoid the chance of your baby inhaling talc, let alone any powder, and go for something that’s calming, soothing, easy to grab and easy to tote around when you need it most.

How to use the Soothing Powder Lotion and Soothing Diaper Rash Cream power team.

You can coat your babe’s entire body in the Soothing Powder Lotion—the rolls, the legs, everything. But, when it comes to the bum, we suggest something a little more targeted, like our Soothing Diaper Rash Cream, which uses zinc oxide to form a protective seal that can specifically treat diaper rashes. To start, smooth Soothing Powder Lotion over skin folds, and follow with Soothing Diaper Rash Cream, applying liberally to the affected diaper area. Viola! Soothed skin, happy baby, stocked diaper bag, and you’re good to go. You got this, Mama.
